Lauren Martin
Lauren Martin, also known a Vintage Milliner is an expert in the history of millinery and milliners in 1830s England having just completed her MA by Research at the University of Huddersfield. She began her millinery career in Melbourne while studying costume at Swinburne University when Louise Macdonald taught the millinery units of the course. Lauren went to study course focused on millinery at the Melbourne School of Fashion before working at The Essential Hat in Prahran during the Melbourne Cup Season along side her work at The Australian Ballet.
In 2013 after moving to London, Lauren began working for leading milliner Philip Treacy, and worked as a short time as a freelancer for Jane Taylor London. During her time at Philip Treacy she worked on major events including the wedding of Prince William to Catherine and Philip’s runway shows.
From London she moved to Nottingham and completed the final year in the BA(Hons) Costume Design and Making course at Nottingham Trent University and in 2021 she completed an MA by Research at the University of Huddersfield, on the topic of millinery and milliners in 1830s England. Despite a strong skillset in fashion millinery Lauren’s current focus is on historical reproductions and work with museums across the United Kingdom.
