Maja Svensson
Maja Svensson was the winner of the Millinery Section of the 0221 Hattermber Competition hosted by Hatters Millinery Supplies. The invitation for entrants was to create something magical with a bundle of materials supplied by Hatters Millinery Supplies. Her piece “To Loved Ones” responded to the theme of Where to Go from Here.
Based in Sweden, Maja attended her first millinery course in 2014 at The Academy of Cutting and Tailoring in Gothenberg. From there she went on to develop her skills through further studies in Sweden and England. She speaks about the impact of the mentors she grained through these classes in the podcast including Sarah Marshall and Jane Corbett.
With a background in engineering Maja’s pieces are inspired by modern and vintage millinery, fashion, nature, sculpture and art. Her pieces are handmade and hand-sewn from start to finish using a range of materials. Taking the next step in her millinery career Maja formally started her business in 2022 under the label “Maja S. Milliner”. She offers bespoke and ready to wear hats as well as the option to hire a selection of pieces to increase the opportunity for hat-wearing in her local area.
