Georgia Skelton
Georgia Skelton is the winner of the 2021 Millinery Association of Australia Design Award with her piece Fantasy Flight. The piece is a take on the Aviator hat dating from the 1920’s and with a modern winter race event for the 2020’s. Constructed using upcycled material it showcases the skilled workmanship combining millinery and other textile skills including lacemaking, knitting and embroidery.
Georgia’s passion for millinery is a natural extension of her fashion and theatrical background with the Australian Ballet Company. She is a skilled dressmaker and textile artist with a natural draw to materials.
A passionate teacher she is unafraid to tell a student to unpick and has taught at institutes including Box Hill TAFE and RMIT University. Taking her expertise in skill development and mentorship from her mother she has channelled this into her principal of The Melbourne School of Millinery.
